Weaving the power
of the positive
into Maine’s
Classrooms
The Power of the Positive
- Positive experiences in childhood buffer the negative long-term health effects of adverse experiences. In fact, having few positive experiences is more detrimental than having adverse experiences. (Bethell et al, 2019)
- A strong sense of mattering to your community is associated with a 65% lower likelihood of considering suicide, a 57% lower likelihood of experiencing depressive symptoms, and a 24% lower likelihood of substance use. (Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey, 2019)
- “Organizations prioritizing employee well-being see a 21% increase in productivity, 41% lower absenteeism, and 59% lower turnover rates.” (Gallup’s “State of the Global Workplace” report, 2022)
- “When educator well-being is prioritized, teacher retention rates improve significantly, reducing turnover by up to 25%, and positively impacting student achievement and classroom climate.”(RAND Corporation, 2022 Educator Well-Being Report)
